 A Healthy Shift

Seminar Experience

I'm Roger Sutherland and for 40 years I was a frontline 24/7 shift worker in policing.

I've seen firsthand the toll that shift work takes—broken sleep, poor nutrition, and constant fatigue. Like many, I relied on caffeine until my health eventually collapsed. That turning point led me to study nutrition and the science around shift work, combining both to specialise in practical, sustainable strategies for shift workers.

These are the strategies I’ve used myself and have taught to 100’s of shift working clients successfully, making enormous changes to their lives and giving them longevity in their vocation.

Now, I bring my vast lived experience, education and proven, science-backed solutions directly to your workforce.

My seminars give your people tools they can use the minute they walk out the door—not just theory.

Your staff get an experience they will be talking about for a long time

What did they say?

"Roger was very engaging in his delivery. Content was great - extremely relevant to our shift-workers, and plenty of take aways for non-shift workers. Extremely positive feedback from the workforce"

“Roger is so knowledgeable. Anything he says is actually backed up by science. He combines his 40 years of experience with the latest science. I loved the practical tips... Continue what you’re doing! You’re amazing and you speak really well in front of people!"

Lucy Hodgkinson

Operational Officer,

 Queensland Police

Roger’s seminar was nothing short of transformational for our team. It was an overwhelming yes from everyone — they found it hugely beneficial, engaging, and filled with practical strategies that could be applied instantly. By the very next day, people were already saying, ‘hydrate before caffeinate!’

Roger didn’t just deliver information — he delivered understanding. For the first time, our shift workers felt truly seen and supported. His ability to connect through real-world experience and science-backed insights gave the session remarkable credibility and depth. He even helped guide us with roster planning, suggesting start and finish times that would be least disruptive to our circadian rhythm — invaluable advice as we voted on our preferred roster that same week.

Everyone agreed they’ll be implementing strategies from the seminar into their daily lives. It was truly one of the best investments we’ve made for our team, especially at such a critical time.

There were also many benefits for the attendees that didn’t work shift work as well. Roger’s knowledge goes far beyond the pamphlets we usually receive — his insights are backed by 40 years of lived experience and the latest science.    I’ve been following Roger for a while on social media, and I’ve personally benefited so much from his expertise.

As a member of the Women In Policing Local Committee I attended many meetings and identified through my own personal experience that I wanted other women and shift workers to become aware of the importance of looking after their nutritional health.

Other agencies had delivered programs around perimenopause and menopause but we needed nutritional advice and the evidence that supports women working in shift work to support women and ensure they can maximise their potential when working the demands of shiftwork.

I had followed Roger for a number of years and implemented many strategies into my own shift work journey and saw the benefits. We reached out to Roger at A Healthy Shift as he had lived through Shift work for 40 years with Victoria Police along with a shift work coach he would understand the daily challenges we face.

Roger was easy to deal with, he outlined what he required for the presentation to be delivered in the most accessible and appropriate way. Roger was responsive and arrived on the day with lots of enthusiasm and passion for his product. With a room full of women he delivered with energy and expertise where every attendee walked away with information on how they could improve their health by making even the smallest of changes to their daily routine.

We are very grateful that A Healthy Shift was delivered with such success and supported by our local members and management and encourage anyone who is wanting to invest in their people to reach out and have Roger come along to deliver his presentation – you won’t regret it.

Today we had the absolute privilege of welcoming Roger Sutherland to present to the women of the Victoria Police Force on how to get the most out of your body as a shift worker. His session was a masterclass in understanding the unique challenges female officers face when it comes to sleep, exercise, and nutrition — and how to navigate them with confidence and clarity.

Roger’s presentation was tailored specifically for the women of VicPol, and it showed. His deep understanding of the physiological and lifestyle differences we experience as females was both refreshing and empowering. It was also incredibly heartening to see male leaders in the room, eager to learn how they can better support their female colleagues — a true testament to the culture of care and inclusion we’re building.

Roger oozes passion. He’s not just speaking from theory — he’s lived it. He’s walked the walk, and now he’s generously sharing his knowledge to help the rest of us thrive.

Every single one of us walked away with at least five powerful takeaways that we’ve already begun to incorporate into our daily lives. From smarter sleep strategies to practical nutrition tips and movement hacks, Roger gave us tools we can actually use — and the motivation to use them.

We’re grateful, inspired, and better equipped to take care of ourselves — and each other — thanks to Roger’s wisdom and energy.
